"His decision paid immediate dividends just two and a half weeks after he gained his license as Elgar landed a selling handicap chase"

The friendly atmosphere of the amateur racing scene should not belie the steel and determination of the competitors, equine or human, many of whom graduate to the professional ranks (Richard Johnson, Sam Thomas and Kingscliffe are to mention but a few).
If the rural scene is more your cup of tea and you would rather picnic in a field than mingle in the bars, then maybe point-to-pointing is more for you. The slightly reduced running costs are a benefit over National Hunt Racing but beware the prize money is well... let's just say moderate!
The point-to-point season has recently been extended and now runs from December through to June and there are just over 200 meetings nationwide. We have trained winners from Exeter to Cardiff to Southwell, so are certainly prepared to try and find the most appropriate opportunity for your horse.
